Guadalajara Day 2

We woke up in a rush our second day in Guadalajara to drop off the bike at the BMW dealership for a fix. The temperature light came on  after about 10 minutes of riding, but we were actually glad to see that the tow fee it took to get to Guadalajara and the hassle along the way was worth it. We arrived at BMW and spoke to a mechanic who told us the problem was a radiator hose leak, which we hadn't noticed before. We decided to get the hose repaired, the water pump replaced, and the new shocks put on that we had been carrying around this whole time. While we waited for an estimated time and price, we were offered free lattes and sandwiches which I gladly accepted.

As it turned out BMW didnt have the part the hose that we needed and would take three days to arrive. It was a Friday morning that we dropped off the bike and were told that we could pick it upon Monday night at the earliest. Though only three days later which is not a terrible amount of time, we were bummed that it couldn't be fixed in one day sine we only had 6 days left on our vacation. thought we were a little disapponted to give up our bike (our main means of transportation) we realized we had no choice. We took our essentials with us, and made our way back to our hotel.

I had always wanted to visit Guadalajara and was excited to finally arrive in the town though under less than admirable circumstance, however upon arriving I was a little surprised to see how dirty and unappealing it actually was. I realize that this is a huge city and of course it isn't going to be extremely clean, but I had high expectations for Guadalajara and none of them were actually met with what I had hoped for. There is some great architecture in the center town square, some happening places to eat and bars to go to, and some excellent street markets to visit, but beyond that I don't have many good things to say about Guadalajara. This being so, I didn't want to stay in Guadalajara for the remaining 6 days of our trip so Eric and I planned to leave the next day on a bus to a beach somewhere. We spent the rest of the day taking in the most and best of Guadalajara by visiting the cathedral, watching a liberal demonstration of some sort, and stumbling upon a fine street market which turned out to be the highlight of our stay in Guadalajara. We had been looking for a market in Guadalajara which was supposed to be the biggest street market in the world, and thought we finally found it but as it turned out this was just any old street market on the side of the road. It was huge anyway.

Roadside fruit stand. You can ask for hot sauce and lime on pretty much anything, but lime and hot sauce on fruit is delicious. This is a new fav.

Not sure exactly what was going in here, but could have been some sort of anti government demonstration here as these cops were surrounding the entrance of a government building and swarms of cops were all around the time square.

I bought this hat in order to hide my future inevitable greasy helmet hair.We had planned on going back out later on to do some more sight seeing, but planning our next destination, updating our blogging, and doing homework ended up taking the rest of the night.

  1. Looks like Eric is wearing one of those Coosa River Challenge shirts. What a stud! I heard that was quite an accomplishment. Anyway, figured out how to sign in so that now I can post. Christine your blog is fabulous. Please keep it up. Love the everyday like photos and the sweet buildings. I hope this is your biggest hiccup with the breakdown, but I'd imagine there will be some more. Hopefully, just less time consuming and less $$. Enjoy.

  2. Ughhhh, had to just prove I wasn't a robot to post. I hate when folks confuse me with a robot. Seems to happen more and more lately. Can't they not crush those damn letters together where I can't tell if it is an r or c or u or whatnot
